Why does PTM Programs Exist?
Winning is Temporary. Character Lasts Forever.
Nearly three decades ago, Pat Murphy began what was then known as the Guadalupe Project, a simple but powerful idea that every young person deserves someone who believes in them. Through baseball, mentorship, and genuine relationships, the program became a place where young athletes learned lessons that extended far beyond the game.
Over the years, that vision grew into one of Arizona's most respected youth baseball organizations. While championships were celebrated, they were never the measure of success. Character, Integrity, Discipline, Accountability, Compassion.
Those values became the foundation of every practice, every conversation, and every relationship built through the program.
As the years passed and Pat continued coaching at every level of the game from youth baseball to Major League Baseball, the philosophy never changed.
Winning games was always secondary to developing people.
Then life came full circle.
When Austin was born, and later Jaxon, baseball once again became personal. Watching Austin grow into the game and seeing Jaxon begin his own baseball journey reminded Pat why the original mission mattered so deeply.
Like so many families today, they searched for a baseball organization that valued people more than profits, character more than championships, and long-term development more than short-term success. Too often, youth sports had become expensive, transactional, and centered around winning at all costs.
PTM was built to be different.
Sandlot Baseball exists because every child deserves the opportunity to play regardless of a family's financial circumstances. No player pays to participate. Instead, PTM raises support from generous individuals, businesses, and community partners so families can focus on what truly matters, watching their children grow.
But PTM has never been only about baseball.
Baseball is simply the vehicle.
Every practice is an opportunity to teach leadership.
Every game is an opportunity to teach resilience.
Every challenge is an opportunity to build confidence.
Every season is an opportunity to develop young people of integrity who will positively impact their families, schools, workplaces, and communities long after the final inning has been played.
Today, PTM Programs for Youth continues to expand that original vision beyond the baseball field. Through education, mental wellness, charitable giving, acts of service, and mentorship, we are creating opportunities for young people to become compassionate leaders prepared for whatever life places before them.
Because while victories fade...
